The purpose of this work is to design a gripper (a tool which is attached to an industrial robot) whose function will be to assemble a European-style pallet; for this purpose, materials present in the market with acceptable rigidity were chosen and the gripper was sized so that the most critical support points are the most rigid materials. The gripper design was carried out in AutoCAD Inventor and Solidworks software, designing the parts according to the materials found on the market, thus avoiding having to order a part to be manufactured. To verify that the gripper has a solid, robust construction and is free of structural failures such as cracks, a study was carried out using the Ansys Mechanical software to verify the stresses applied to the gripper subassemblies. The results indicate that the selected materials are suitable for the work to be performed, so there are no structural failures when assembling the pallet. Regarding the selection of suction cups, their manufacturing material was taken into account and calculations were made to determine the appropriate diameter, considering the suction capacity of the selected vacuum ejector and taking into account the physical characteristics of the pieces to be lifted. Finally, the tests carried out together with the inductive sensor demonstrate that the gripper assembles the pallet with the nailing recommendations offered by the standard, due to the sensing of the nails in the process.
