The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of the variation in international oil prices on economic growth (measured through GDP), inflation, exchange rate and interest rate in Peru during the period 2003 - 2023, given that the Peruvian economy depends mainly on crude oil and is considered a net importer, since national production does not satisfy national demand. The proposed methodology is that of an econometric model of Structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR). In addition, an analysis is carried out in which exogenous variables such as the price of oil, world oil production and the fuel price stabilization fund are incorporated, given that the Peruvian economy cannot directly influence them. Thus, impulse response functions are built for the aforementioned macroeconomic variables. The originality of this work lies in being one of the pioneers in studying the effect of the increase in international oil prices on the macroeconomic variables of Peru. This innovative approach also includes the use of variables related to the fuel price stabilization fund and oil production. In addition, the analysis is carried out through three types of shocks: an oil supply shock, a demand shock driven by global economic activity, and an oil-specific demand shock. The results show that oil supply and demand shocks affect macroeconomic variables differently in the short term, although their effects tend to dissipate in the long term. In particular, higher oil prices exert negative pressures on GDP and the exchange rate, while the impacts on inflation and the interest rate are more moderate. In addition, the structural resilience of the Peruvian economy to specific oil demand shocks is highlighted, attributed to internal factors that cushion the effects of global energy market volatility.
