This study analyzes traffic on Av. Bolívar, between the intersections of Av. Sucre and Av. Brasil, with the goal of developing a one-way bike lane in each direction of the road to improve both traffic conditions and cyclist safety. To conduct the study, a comparison was made between the current and proposed situations in terms of vehicular flow and road infrastructure, which were modeled using the VISSIM software. The main data source used was vehicle count data, which revealed a maximum of 4,025 vehicles at the Bolívar-Brasil intersection and 4,909 vehicles at the Bolívar-Sucre intersection during the peak hour, between 7:00 and 8:00 pm. Simulation results indicate that the implementation of the bike lane reduces travel times at 7 access points, ranging from 0.20 to 3.40 seconds, although 2 access points showed an increase of 0.50 seconds. Additionally, a reduction in queue lengths was observed at two access points, varying between 16.6 and 22.1 meters, while one access point saw an increase of 68.45 meters. The bike lane implementation reduces travel times and queues, although in some cases these parameters increase slightly without significantly affecting traffic flow. The benefits in mobility and conflict reduction outweigh the mentioned drawbacks, supporting its implementation as a viable measure to improve urban infrastructure.
