In this work, the improvement of equipment availability in the polypropylene sheet cutting station in a company in the plastics sector is addressed. The main objective is to increase the availability of this equipment through the implementation of the Autonomous and Preventive Maintenance pillars of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), reducing unplanned stops and optimizing operational performance. To meet this objective, a diagnostic methodology was used that identified the main causes of failures, including motor overheating and lack of lubrication in bearings, which affect the efficiency of the process. Through tools such as Pareto analysis and control charts, the necessary interventions were prioritized. The results show that, after the implementation of the TPM, equipment availability increased by 2.94%, going from 81.73% in 2022 to 84.67% in 2023. This increase implies a significant reduction in downtime, optimizing capacity of production and contributing to the achievement of the company's sustainability objectives. The conclusions suggest that the focus on Autonomous and Preventive Maintenance is effective in improving the availability of equipment, recommending the extension of this methodology to other production areas. Additionally, there is a need to constantly monitor availability metrics and make continuous adjustments to the maintenance plan to ensure optimal performance.
