OBJECTIVE: The general objective was to establish the relationship between the level of dental caries and sex in children from 3 to 5 years of age of the educational center N°601491 Madre Teresa de Calcuta. METHODOLOGY: The present research is quantitative, the design is non-experimental, correlational, cross-sectional, it will be conformed by 328 students of the educational center N°601491 Madre Teresa de Calcuta, the sample was calculated by means of the formula of finite populations. For which the observation technique was used and making use of the documentary analysis guide instruments (ODONTOGRAM AND CEOD INDEX FORM). RESULTS:The highest percentage of the sample was 5 years (52.5%), followed by 4 years (34.5%) and 3 years (13%). Very high ceod was the most frequent with 27.7%; followed by low with 22%; very low with 16.9%; moderate with 13%, absent with 10.7% and high with 9.6%. The ceod was absent in 10.7%. The highest percentage of the sample presented 2 decayed teeth with 26%; followed by 1 decayed tooth with 19.2%; 3 teeth with 13%; none with 10.2%. The maximum number of decayed teeth was 11 with 0.6%. There were 79.7% with no teeth with extraction indicated, followed by 1 tooth with extraction indicated with 9%. The highest percentage of 3-year-old children had a very high ceod (34.8%), followed by a very low ceod (30.4%); 4-year-old children had equal percentages of very high and low ceod (26.2%); 5-year-old children had 26.9% of very high ceod and 22.6% of low ceod. The highest percentage of the male sex presented a very high ceod with 33.3%; the highest percentage of the female sex had a low ceod with 26.7%. CONCLUSIONS: No relationship was found between sex of the students and ceod (p= 0.189) and there was no relationship between age of the students and ceod (p= 0.862).
