Environmental education raises awareness among young people about the importance of protecting the environment, making them more conscious of their impact and more responsible in their daily actions. In the educational context, this discipline not only makes students aware of environmental issues but also promotes the adoption of sustainable practices, such as recycling. In this framework, the theory of recycling emerges as a crucial pillar for the proper management of solid waste. In this regard, the main objective of the present research was to determine how knowledge of environmental education and the theory of recycling is developed among students at the "Padre Agustín López Pardo" Educational Institution, Requena district, during the year 2023, aimed at solid waste management and the application of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle). To achieve this, a sample of 45 students from the 3rd grade A and B of the secondary level was used, employing a questionnaire, which was applied to the students through a pre-test to determine their environmental knowledge. This was followed by a workshop on topics related to the theory of recycling and the application of the 3Rs, concluding with a post-test to determine their understanding of the theory of recycling. The results obtained indicate that the majority of students have a positive perception and significant knowledge of both environmental education (73%) and the theory of recycling (67%), categorized at the HIGH level of knowledge with 51% and 56% respectively. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the educational strategies implemented at the institution, highlighting the importance and effectiveness of environmental education and recycling in student formation.
