Loreto occupies the second place of prevalence of low birth weight newborn, with risk of complications mainly neurological and respiratory, which increases neonatal and infant mortality, and in adulthood increased risk of diabetes, hypertension, coronary ischemic disease and obesity Objective: To identify the determining factors to low birth weight newborns in a hospital of the third level of the city of Iquitos, 202 0 – 2022 Material and methods: A case-control study was carried out, with 104 RNBP and 208 NB with normal weight, reviewing the medical histories taken during prenatal care, determining the OR of each factor and statistical significance through the chi-square test Results: The highest frequency of low birth weight infants were in adolescents (46.8%) with an OR of 2.25 (p=0.017); nulliparous (48.6%) with an OR of 2.17 (p=0.036); low pregestational weight (53.6%) with an OR of 2.70 (p=0.014), intergenetic period less than 2 years (43.5%) with an OR of 2.97 (p=0.012); less than 6 prenatal care (51.2%) with an OR of 2.60 (p=0.005); presence of morbidity during pregnancy (45.3%) with an OR of 2.49 (p=0.002); the morbidities associated with RNBP were: anemia (OR=2.42, p=0.013), RPM (OR=2.14, p=0.031), hyperemesis gravidarum (OR=2.0, p=0.046) and UTI (OR=1.95, p=0.045). The intergenetic period of 2 to 5 years presented a lower significant risk (OR=0.396, p=0.010). Conclusion: RNBP is significantly associated with some demographic, obstetric and clinical characteristics of pregnant women.
