This research focused on the implementation of Active Directory in the Office of Information Technology at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP), with the aim of improving user management, resources, and information security in the university network. The identified problem consisted of a fragmented administration of technological resources, which led to inefficiencies in user management, security incidents, and difficulties in controlling access to shared resources. The general objective was to implement a technological solution that centralized the management of users and resources, improved security, and optimized the operational efficiency of the IT staff. The specific objectives included designing an Active Directory structure adapted to the needs of UNAP, migrating users and resources to the new structure, and evaluating the impact of the implementation on security, operational efficiency, and user satisfaction. The type of research was applied and descriptive, and a descriptive case study design was used. The population consisted of IT staff, administrative users, teachers, and students from UNAP. A purposive sample of approximately 100 people was selected, including all IT staff and key users from the faculties and departments. The data collection techniques included semi-structured interviews, surveys of end-users, direct observation, and the analysis of internal documents and technical records. The applied analysis techniques were both qualitative and quantitative, using thematic analysis for qualitative data and descriptive statistics for quantitative data. The main results indicated a significant improvement in information security, with a 53% reduction in unauthorized access incidents and a 67% decrease in the time to detect threats. Additionally, greater operational efficiency was observed in the IT staff, who reduced the time spent on user management by 40% and the response time to access problems by 83%. End-user satisfaction increased from 70% to 85%, highlighting easier access to shared resources and a better perception of security. The study’s conclusions confirm that the implementation of Active Directory had a positive impact on university network management, improving both security and operational efficiency, as well as the user experience. It was recommended to maintain continuous system monitoring to ensure optimal performance, regularly update technological infrastructure, and provide continuous training to IT staff to adapt to future technological advances. This study demonstrates that Active Directory is an effective solution to centralize user and resource management in an educational institution like UNAP, improving information security and optimizing IT resources.
