Background: Leptospirosis is an infectious disease, which constitutes a public health problem at national and international level due to the increase in the number of cases and which increases the cases of morbidity and mortality in people. Objective: To determine the effect of the nursing intervention on knowledge and preventive practices in leptospirosis in inhabitants of the island Iquitos - Belén. Material and methods: Study of quantitative approach, applicative type, of experimental method and pre-experimental design, with a sample of 52 adult inhabitants, of non-probabilistic sample selection for convenience; The technique used to obtain the data collection was the survey and the observation guide, as an instrument the questionnaire was used, a standardized instrument elaborated with questions about knowledge and multiple-choice practice that included sociodemographic data, and 18 questions about knowledge about leptospirosis, concepts such as: definition, symptoms, forms of transmission. In the nursing intervention, the pre-test was applied first, followed by nursing sessions and by demonstrative workshops on preventive practices of leptospirosis; after that, the post-test was applied. Finally, an observation guide for preventive practices was used in order to observe the high, medium and low level of the presumptive variables of the inhabitants about leptospirosis that consisted of 12 items, with a score of 1¬. Never, 2. Sometimes , and 3. Always, those who measured the practices as adequate and inappropriate. SPSS version 25 was used for data analysis. Results: The level of knowledge before the nursing intervention was Inadequate 43 (82.7%); after the nursing intervention, it was at an Adequate level 50 (96.2%); confirming the difference as significant through the Student t value -10.378 and p <0.05. Likewise, the preventive practices before the nursing intervention were inadequate 33 (63.5%); After the nursing intervention, 46 (88.5%) were adequate, confirming the difference as significant through the value of X2 Yates = 27.733 p = 0.0000014 <0.05. When relating the study variables, an X2 = 8.581 p = 0.035413 (p <0.05) was obtained, allowing to approve the proposed hypothesis. There are significant differences between the knowledge and practices of Leptosirosis prevention measures before and after the nursing intervention in inhabitants of the island Iquitos-Bele, in 2019. Conclusion: The aplication of the nursing intervention had a significant effect on the increase of knowledge and preventive practise against leptospirosis in the inhabitants of the Iquitos – belen Island.
