The deficiency of self-care in the postpartum stage and the care of the newborn represents a global problem causing maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, which has led many studies to improve the quality of care, care in the puerperal and newborn. Objective: Determine the Level of Knowledge of the puerperal women about the self-care and care of the Newborn, Hospital Iquitos César Garayar, May 2019. Methodos: The present study was of a quantitative type, with a descriptive transversal and prospective design; The population consisted of 434 puerperal women treated at the Iquitos César Garayar Hospital during the month of may 2019; the sample consisted of 204 puerperal women who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria; the selection of the study unit was intentional, since the puerperae accepted their participation in the study through an informed consent. Results: Among the main sociodemographic characteristics of the puerperal women, it was found that they were between 20 and 34 years old (64.2%); secondary studies (64.2%); cohabitants (81.4%); from marginal urban area (62.3%) and does not work (87.3%). The main obstetric characteristics found were; multiparous (53.4%); to term gestation (86.7%) and type of vaginal delivery (77.5%). Conclusion: 51.0% of the puerperal women surveyed had a low level of knowledge about self-care, followed by 43.1% with a medium level of knowledge and only 5.9% had a high level of knowledge; 80.9% of the puerperal women surveyed had a medium level of knowledge about Newborn care, followed by 15.2% with a low level of knowledge and only 3.9% had a high level of knowledge.
