There is controversy in the results of research that addresses the relationship between cognitive flexibility and depression in adults. Some of them find a negative correlation between both variables; however, another important group does not observe such a relationship. Therefore, the objective of this systematic review was to answer what is the relationship between cognitive flexibility and depression in adults. The search was conducted in two academic databases (Scopus and Scielo) using the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement in September 2024 and articles only in English were included. Both academic databases found 3570 studies without duplicates, of which 3557 were eliminated because they did not meet the objective of the present systematic review. Of the remaining 13 studies, 2 studies could not be retrieved, so 11 articles were reviewed. Finally, 3 studies that met the eligibility criteria of this systematic review were included. Regarding the results obtained in the included studies, two of them showed a negative correlation between cognitive flexibility and depression in adults, while one of them found no relationship between both variables. Consequently, this systematic review has not found a conclusive answer regarding the relationship between cognitive flexibility and depression in adults.
