The intersection of Avenida Javier Prado and Avenida La Molina experiences significant traffic congestion, characterized by delays, prolonged crossing times, and vehicle conflicts. The objective of the study was to design a comprehensive proposal to reduce these delays and improve service levels, enhancing traffic efficiency and safety. A detailed field study was conducted, and a microsimulation model was developed using PTV Vissim, calibrated with crossing times, Wiedemann 74 parameters, and congestion data, and validated with StatKey. For the proposal, two alternatives were presented. The first involves a geometric redesign of the intersection and the implementation of an exclusive lane for public transport corridors, resulting in a 45% improvement in average crossing time efficiency, reducing delays and improving service levels from F to D in the West-East direction and from F to C in the South-North direction. The second alternative is the optimization of traffic signals for left turns at the intersection, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposal and improving traffic flow at the intersection. Both alternatives provide viable and effective solutions to address congestion issues and enhance traffic safety at the intersection, offering a solid foundation for future implementations and improvements in traffic management.
