There are several factors by which the main Bank of Peru decides to change the reference interest rate, such as shocks in supply, demand, inflation, among others. Thus, variations in the reference rate are transferred to the additional rates of the financial system, which is called the pass-through effect. However, there is no defined time frame in which these changes are reflected. This is why this research seeks to study the pass-through effect and the speed of adjustment of the reference interest rate or monetary policy rate on the interest rates of the banking sector of the Peruvian economy, for the period from August 2010 to December 2023. For this purpose, we focused on lending interest rates; among them, the consumer rate, corporate, medium-sized companies, preferential and the average rate in local currency (TAMN); while in the passive interest rates we worked with the current account rate, deposits and the average rate in local currency (TIPM). The results obtained by means of an Error Correction Model (ECM) show that lending and deposit rates have a positive effect. In addition, the rates for medium-sized companies, preferential and current account adjust in less time than the other rates; while the rates for consumption, TAMN and deposits up to 180 days take a longer time to adjust compared to the other rates. Therefore, we can conclude that, through the transmission channel, the reference interest rate has an impact on lending and deposit interest rates at various levels.
