This research aimed to analyze the association between extrinsic and intrinsic risk factors and central venous catheter infection in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital in Piura, 2024. This study had a quantitative-descriptive-correlational approach. A sample of 35 patients was included. The results indicate a high association between risk factors and infection (x2 = 000; p = 0.017). The insertion area in the right subclavian showed an infection rate of 8.57%. The use of 2% chlorhexidine was associated with 11.4% of infections, and catheters inserted urgently with 11.4%. The use of transparent dressings presented 8.5%, polyurethane catheters 17.4%, and CVCs with 3 lumens 17.1%. CVCs removed before signs of infection were present in 11.4% of cases, and protocol noncompliance affected 14.2%. Among intrinsic factors, hypertension was associated with 13.3%, cancer with 30%, diabetes with 21.4%, immunodeficiency with 17.1%, and age with 17.6%. 82.9% of patients did not develop infection
