The objective of this research is to analyze and compare the mechanical efficiency and sustainability of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) in relation to conventional wood in sustainable construction in Peru. Since the construction sector accounts for approximately 40% of CO2 emissions, it is essential to look for alternatives that reduce its environmental impact. Developed in Europe in the 1990s, CLT has proven to be suitable for medium and high-rise buildings, thanks to its high mechanical performance and flexibility in design. The mechanical properties of CLT show a compressive strength parallel to the grain of approximately 26.635 MPa and an average flexural strength of 65.80 Mpa according to the tests carried out. These results indicate that CLT is competitive with conventional wood and has advantages in energy efficiency and resilience to earthquakes. The life cycle analysis (LCA) reveals that the use of CLT can reduce carbon emissions by 20% to 30% compared to concrete and steel. As a renewable material, CLT captures carbon dioxide during tree growth, helping to mitigate climate change. However, its adoption in Peru is limited due to the lack of regulations governing its use in construction.
