The queñua tree, or polylepis, is a species of tree that grows in harsh climates, in which many other trees cannot survive. In addition, it plays a crucial role in the ecosystem, since its roots store large amounts of water from precipitation, preventing soil erosion and subsequent landslides. On the other hand, this tree has several flammable qualities that make it a prime candidate to be used as firewood. This has caused its excessive deforestation in the forests surrounding the city of Arequipa. Given this, Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde has been carrying out various actions to stop deforestation and reforest the affected areas. These actions involve germination, planting, and the preservation of trees in the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. This year, the company decided to participate in Peru for the SDG contest with this project. In order to participate a video was made that showed the process, as part of the participation portfolio. Thus, in March of this year, the production and post-production of the piece analyzed in this document were carried out.
