The work focuses on the structural reinforcement of the Central Building of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) in the city of Lima. Many buildings more than 50 years old do not comply with the current E.0.30 seismic resistance standard. For the development of the project, an analysis of the current building was carried out using non-invasive methods, such as diamond testing, auscultation and scanning of the steel footings, in order to determine the distortions present. In a second phase, the variability in the resistance of the existing structure was evaluated. In the third stage, the structural reinforcement of the tower called “Edificio Universal”, consisting of nine floors and two basement, was proposed. Irregularities in height and floor plan were verified, in addition to determining the vibration modes and fundamental period. Subsequently, two reinforcement solutions were designed: one using Viscous fluid dissipators in Chevron arrangement, and the other using the jacketing method for some key structural elements. Finally, a comparative analysis was made between the structure in its current state and with the proposed strengthening, verifying the seismic behavior and confirming whether the suggested methods will allow the building to comply with current regulations and, above all, guarantee the safety of the occupants.
