The present investigation addresses the problem of inefficient demand forecasting for imports in the company that markets supplements and dietary products, which results in stock shortages. This research evaluates proposals for the technological improvement of the demand forecasting process, using a qualitative methodological approach of an applied type. The improvement proposals were assessed based on a bibliographic review and in-depth interviews with the company’s personnel who have been affected by the problem and are involved in the demand forecasting process. Based on this, the best solution proposed is to modify the company’s current ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system by adding new functionalities that automate the process of forecasting import demand and its approval, thus reducing the probability of stock shortages and the margin of error in forecasts. It is concluded that adding new functionalities to the company’s current ERP system has many benefits and is the most appropriate way to address the company’s present problem. Furthermore, it is recommended that, within a period of four years, the company reevaluate whether it is better to continue adding new functionalities to the ERP or, alternatively, to implement new software or a new ERP system
