Peru is situated in a geomorphological and geological zone highly exposed to a range of events and risks, such as flooding. This study assessed the flood hazard and proposed a mitigation measure for the Monzón River, Monzón populated center, using IBER software. The objective was to determine the level of risk for different return periods and propose a solution for the period with the highest risk. A systematic methodological structure was employed, encompassing watershed delineation, precipitation record analysis, hydrological variable calculation, flood modeling and simulation, and mitigation proposal design. The study accurately established the hydrological and geometrical parameters of the Monzón River watershed, calculated the maximum 24-hour precipitation, and determined triangular hydrographs for various return periods. Results showed that implementing gabion walls significantly reduced flood risk for a 200-year return period, protecting crop areas and critical infrastructure. Reduced erosion and improved channel stability also contributed to the proposal's effectiveness. In conclusion, this study effectively assessed flood hazard and proposed adequate mitigation, demonstrating gabion wall implementation as an effective solution to reduce flood risk in the study area.
