The objective of this research work is to find the relationship between the motivation and academic performance variables in the students of the sixth cycle of the English-French specialty of the UNE Enrique Guzmán y Valle. For this purpose, a questionnaire has been constructed for the motivation variable and, after the corresponding validation, it was applied through a survey to the students of the study sample. Likewise, for the academic performance variable, the data of the grades provided by the same students in the Advanced English course were obtained. The research approach is framed within the quantitative with correlational design, descriptive method and non-experimental type. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in data processing using the statistical software SPSS V24. Finally, after carrying out the hypothesis test, it was confirmed that motivation is directly related to academic performance, that is, the higher the level of motivation, the higher the level reached by academic performance, also according to Spearman's correlation of 0.886, this represents a very high positive correlation.
