The objective of this research work was to find out the relationship between the variables phonological awareness and pre-reading learning in five-year-old boys and girls of the Initial Educational Institution No. 128 of the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima. The approach used is quantitative, basic, non-experimental, descriptive-relational, hypothetical-deductive. The sample consisted of 32 students. The data were collected through the survey and two tests were used as instruments to measure each of the study variables and establish the relationship between them. The instruments applied were validated by expert judgment and for reliability with Kuder Richardson's KR20 it was 0.89 and 0.79, which indicates a high reliability index. The descriptive results show that the relationship between phonological awareness and pre-reading learning in children is poor in 43.8%, regular in 3.1% and good in 28.1%. The inferential results through the Spearman Rho statistic give a correlation of 0.774, which indicates a direct and moderate positive relationship. That is, with regular phonological awareness, pre-reading learning is also regular.
