Studies on the use of the theory of semiotic representation registers for learning functions in basic and higher education have been developed for at least two decades since its insertion by Duval in 1995. However, systematic research on the subject is still scarce in the studies carried out to date. To fill this gap, this article identifies trends based on a set of qualitative variables (language, age of sources, editorials, discursive genres, and subject matter). To this end, 43 sources were quantitatively analyzed from 4 primary sources that have appeared in the last twelve years in Latin America. The results show that there is a great amount of current knowledge on the subject that shows the importance of semiotic representations in the learning of functions. Likewise, these systematized sources show a considerable difference between publications in Spanish and English. This analysis of the trends in the studies of functions in Latin America is of great educational and political importance for their improvement.
