Biobanks are collections of biospecimensobtained from research volunteers or frompatients. Samples stored at biobanks are for future research purposes. The importance of biobanks lies on the savings of time and resources for research, since samples are stored under strict qualityconditions, with appropriate protection of the confidentiality and privacy of the participants. However, storing biological samples at a biobank implies several ethical challenges. Several surveys toassess the community perception regarding these ethical challengeshave been conducted in Europe, Africa and the United States indicatinga high rate of trust among the community when samples are provided for future use. We do not know of any such surveys in Latin America, and there is concern over the rights of participants regarding their samples and the need for a greater and stricter government control of biobanks. This absence of information has led to the planning of this study.Training activities are recommended for investigators and IRB members to better understand biobanks, to adoptbroad consents to store samples, and touse of Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) forcollaborative relations for research purposes and follow up future study results to apply them in public health strategies, if feasible
