The process of continuous improvement focuses mainly on the stabilization of processes, with the existence of the possibility of improvement. On the other hand, the availability of equipment, can be defined as the ability of a team or machine to perform a required function, during a certain time. The investigation is carried out in a mining company, where it has been observed that the maintenance process tends to exceed in time, which directly affects the availability of electric shovels that carry out loading operations and in which the tools of continuous improvement. The mainobjective of this study is the application of continuous improvement tools on Bucyrus 495HR electric shovels to achieve the optimization of the availability of this equipment. The research is of exploratory type, because it is desired to know the context of the object of study and monitoring, because measurements related to availability will be made; In addition, the research was conducted under a non-experimental design. Taking as a sample the total population of electric shovels, which are three units. Finally, it was concluded that availability increases thanks to the application of continuous improvement tools, through the reduction of times, and as a result of this reduction, there are savings in maintenance costs of up to 4.06 million soles, which is beneficial for the mining company. On the other hand, it is recommended that the mining company extend the application of the study to other fleets it owns, the correct supply of components for carrying out scheduled preventive maintenance, and the motivation of collaborators to reinforce the fulfillmentof their duties fully.
