The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between self-regulation of learning and academic performance in secondary school students from Lima. The sample consisted of 505 students (277 women and 228 men, mean age 14.81 +/- 1.30) from three schools in Lima. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) by Pintrich and De Groot (1990) short version and the grade point average of the school year were used. The MSLQ was subjected to expert judgment, granting validity and reliability to each of its variables. The results of the hypothesis contrast showed that the variables evaluated, cognitive and metacognitive strategies and motivational beliefs correlated positively and statistically significantly with academic performance. The study variables are supported and analyzed with the contributions and neuroscientific findings of the self-regulation of emotions in adolescence and its implication in the self-regulation of learning and academic performance.
