Objective: to evaluate the efficacy of the extract of Echinopsis Peruviana for the treatment of alopecia areata (AA) in albino rats (Holtzman strain). Materials and methods: Echinopsis Peruviana was collected in an elevated region of the department from Ancash. The maceration method was used to extract the active metabolites. Hair lotions were prepared at 1.25%, 2.5% and 5% from the extract, the rats were depilated and these lotions were induced. To begin recording hair growth, measurements were taken with a digital vernier after seven days to observe the differences in the growing measurements of the hair shaft. Results: the phytochemical analysis of the Echinopsis Peruviana extract showed a high amount of phenols, saponins, tannins and alkaloids, with a moderate presence of steroids and a low presence of quinones and triterpenes. No flavonoids were detected. In a study conducted over two weeks, it was observed that the group treated with minoxidil showed greater growth, followed by the group treated with 5% Echinopsis Peruviana extract, which also showed accelerated growth. Conclusion: the lotion of Echinopsis Peruviana extract at 2.5% and 5% for the treatment of alopecia areata (AA) in albino rats (Holtzman strain) has a stimulating effect.
