The highlight of the study of a lightweight concrete is density, and it could be evidenced that concrete with lower density can be obtained than a normal concrete with strengths that meet certain regulations and can be used in construction, perhaps for the moment not in elements structural, but in other elements in the construction if, in order for example to reduce dead load, faster construction, insulation, etc. In the present work, mixtures of standard concrete and 4 mixtures with variations of quantities of Expanded Polystyrene beads were made, which was included in the mixture in replacement of the coarse aggregate. This replacement was done gradually first by replacing 25% of the Coarse Aggregate in volume with the Expanded Polystyrene beads, then it was done with 50%, 75% and 100%. For this analysis, materials from the area were used, having to combine two fine aggregates in order to meet the requirements of the standard and use a thick spindle aggregate 57 for the design. The designs were made with HE cement, water reducing additive and forge retardant to obtain the desired slump conditions from 4 ”to 6”, reaching the concrete pattern at expected strengths. Based on the results obtained, the conclusions reached in this investigation are presented in Chapter IV, the resistance and density are in the range of so-called light concrete of moderate resistance, this for non-structural use. The use of the water reducer and forge retardant helped to improve the strength of the concrete with 280 kg of cement and ratio water / cement of 0.65, it was also concluded that by increasing the expanded polystyrene beads, the settlement value increases, reduces the weight of concrete and compressive strength decreases.
