Laboratory and field insectaries were used to evaluate the reproductive bioecology of Anopheles darlingi from May to September 2011. Field insectary was located in the San Juan district, Maynas province, Loreto department; while the laboratory insectary was located in the Iquitos district, Maynas province, and Loreto department. A comparison study on the oogenesis, gonotrophic cycle, and photoperiod and oviposition was conducted both insectaries; additionally, the immature development, immature and adult lifetable, and induced copulation in Anopheles darlingi were evaluated in the laboratory insectary. Results showed that An. darlingi does not exhibit a synchronous egg development within the ovaries. The gonotrophic cycle was slightly shorter in the laboratory than in the field insectary with 4.0 d and 4.7 d, respectively. Oviposition frequency of An. darlingi was not significantly different between day and night in both insectaries. The average time from larva hatching to adult emergence was 17.1 d, with a range of 10.0 d to 27.0 d. The survival rate from larvae hatching to the adult emergence was 20 %, with a life expectancy higher for L1 and L2 instars both with 1.9 d. The longevity was higher in females than males with 31.0 d and 19.0 d respectively. Similarly the life expectancy was higher in the females than in the males with 16.0 d and 8.6 d respectively. An insemination rate of 5% was recorded in the experiment with light stimulation, while only a 2% was registered without light stimulation.
