This study described the attitude, belief and practice in feeding, nutrition and health of the mother with children of 0 to 5 year in the Momon’s river basin - Iquitos. It was carried out between July and August 2002 in 14 communities of the project LA 1041/PER 1045-02. Anthropology’s qualitative techniques were used to research interviews semi-structure and focus groups. The sample was intentional. The semistructure interviews and focus groups were designing and testing. Besides it was realized 21 focus groups for mother with at least one child less of 5 years, mother and father with one child at least of other age. The data were analyzed using: textual transcriptions, cross the data and made a matrix. We found that the mothers recognize the colostrums like the “primera leche” and didn’t give to their babies, the breastfeeding become late (after 3 days the childbirth) and introduced other kind of food different to the breastfeeding due to the mother’s perception regarding milk’s production, the frequency of breastfeeding did not free demand because it is depend of the mother’s activities. The complementary feeding and child feeding have both -good and bad- foods. Foods consider more appropriated for child under 1 year were called “no duros” (smooth foods) and bad foods were called the “pesados” (hard food). The mother feeding two or three times per day to their children in a few quantities because their children are little and they do not have any time. The children after 2 years eat family foods but twice per day and a few quantities because are little. The family consume with major frequency bananas, mandioca and rice and less frequency vegetables, fish and red meat because they have low availability and/or accessibility of food and due to their belief about some foods. The principal channel of communication was the radio. Other valid channels of communication are the wise people for the community and in other cases the health promoters. People were interesting in the information regarding foods and how to improve the foods availability. People desire to know subjects about health (anaemia and malaria), to learn other option for prepare their foods and child feeding.
