This research determines the chemical composition of the PM2.5 in the environmental air of the UNALM campus. For this purpose were used PM2.5 samples collected with a low volume sampler model PARTISOL between July and September of 2016 on five strategic sites inside the UNALM campus. The chemical composition was determined in terms of total metal content analyzed by Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and anion content (nitrate and sulfate) analyzed by Ion Chromatography. The results obtained showed that the predominant metal in the local PM2.5 is sodium while in the case of anions the sulfate concentration stands out on the nitrate concentration. Even though the concentration of the chemical components of the local PM2.5 is not alarming it was identified that the closest monitoring site to the main avenue (Av. La Molina) was the one that showed the biggest concentration of metals and anions besides it did not presented the biggest PM2.5 concentration confirming the necessity to perform researches like this one presented to fully understand the impacts that the particulate matter can generate. Furthermore, analyzing the local behavior of the meteorological variables, it was identified that solar radiation and nitrate concentration show a similar behavior and that the wind might have influence over the concentration of the chemical components of the PM2.5 because of the transport of air masses that it generates. On the other hand, among the possible origins of pollution that influence over the local chemical composition of the PM2.5 we have resuspension of soil dust from areas with uncovered land or farmlands, emissions from traffic (based on the content and spatial distribution of metals) and also marine aerosols
