Research related to the factors that influence the individual production of publications in refereed journals generally include the individual characteristics of the researchers and the circumstances of the environment in which they operate. The present study proposes to evaluate in a particular way the components that influence in the production of individual research of the university professors of the countries of Ecuador, Peru and Colombia, through one model of production of articles, posing as explanatory variables: the previous production of the teachers-researchers, their individual characteristics and institutional factors of the environment in which they operate. The results show that the fact of having previously produced refereed articles is the main factor that explains the subsequent individual realization of investigations. In addition, the individual characteristics of age and academic range and institutional factors the time spent on research activities, as well as departmental vision and rewards, also have a direct impact on research productivity. For the development of this study, the quantitative methodology was used with the use of the multinomial logistic regression technique. The inquiries were made to a sample of full-time university professors from universities located in Ecuador, Peru and Colombia that show better results in publications of indexed articles in recent years.
