The objective of this research study was to assess the effectiveness of a learner training program based on metacognitive strategies to improve second grade students’ reading comprehension in English at San Juan de Miraflores 60024 secondary school, San Juan Bautista 2019. The research type was evaluative with field study, contemporary transectional, univariable, and quasi-experimental designs with pretest, post-test of the experimental and control group. The study population was made up by 251 students, with a non-probabilistic sample of 56 divided into two groups: control (26) and experimental and control group (30). The data gathering tool was a valid and reliable written comprehension test. Results in the post test reveal that the experimental group students’ reading comprehension mean score in English was higher than the control group. (13.6>6.5). Similarly, in its dimensions: Getting information (13.4>6.2), inferencing and interpreting information (13.5>6.6), evaluation of text content, context, and format (13.9>6.9). In conclusion, the study hypothesis was accepted since the learner training program based on metacognitive strategies improved significantly the study population students’ reading comprehension in English. (p-value = 0,000 < α = 0,05).
