In this thesis we propose general objective to determine the characteristics of poverty on the outskirts of the city of Iquitos, followed by the specific objectives to determine the characteristics of the population income; housing and access to basic services; and an analysis of the characteristics of education and to describe access to health services of the population. As a variable, it is presented the characteristics of poverty that occurs in the periphery of the city of Iquitos, together with their indicators and indexes respectively: family income (top, or below the minimum salary ) , housing type ( noble material , rustic or others) , education (primary , secondary or higher ) and access to health services ( medical post, health center , a hospital or private hospital). Regarding the type of research is descriptive; its design is no experimental. The population considers the inhabitants of Bellavista Nanay, Morona Cocha, San Juan and Belen. The sample consisted of 356 people. The technique used in this study was the interview; the instrument used in this study was the questionnaire. Epi Info version 7 was used for the analysis of the results. After analyzing the data, it is concluded that the poor in the outskirts of the city of Iquitos, is characterized by having a family income below the minimum living wage is S/.750.00; and they live in rustic homes, they have little education and no access to health systems. These results provide a conceptual and methodological further development of a new research to help us in the future to achieve objectives and goal.
