In order to determine the floristic composition, the horizontal structure and the diversity of a flooded low-terrace forest located in the area of the Iquitos-Nauta road, Loreto, Peru, a study was carried out using 20 m x 25 m sampling plots. 664 individuals distributed in 98 species, 76 genera and 31 botanical families were registered in the whole study area. Fabaceae was the family with the highest number of species and individuals (11 and 96, respectively). V. elongate showed the highest abundance of 10 ind/ha, followed by E. decolorans (8,25 ind/ha) and S. spathulata (6 ind/ha). The most important species were E. decolorans (12,5%), S. spathulata (12,18%) and V. elongate (12,17%). The Shannon index reported a value of 4,15 indicating a medium diversity, while the Simpson index with a value of 0,98 indicated the existence of few dominant species compared to the high amount of rare species. Margalef with 15,08 indicated a high diversity in the study site. The specific richness of forest species in the study site is relatively high.
