The purpose of this research is the evaluation of the structural safety level of the Church of San Cosme and San Damián of Lares, to see if their colonial structure composed of adobe walls and plinth Stone, even after the passage of the years complies with the structural conditions that support its stability, strength and terms of service. The structure of the temple San Cosme and San Damián is run down, and the need for intervention is clear. In this research, structural safety levels are defined based on the quality of the adobe unit, minimum thickness and displacement of the walls, and periods of the structure, having three levels of security: Acceptable, Low and Hazard. In the case of the temple San Cosme and San Damián of Lares, in order to determine their level of structural safety, we proceeded to study its current structure by a qualitative evaluation, As recommended by the Spanish standard Structural Safety, which took into account aspects of the structure and functional aspects of the same. A quantitative evaluation was then performed, taking into account the minimum thickness, the critical load and the axial force of the walls using cell tests adobe; and displacements, forces and stresses, the latter obtained by a mathematical model of the current structure of the temple, concluding that the temple has a hazard level of structural safety. Various proposals for structural intervention were evaluated and it was convenient to use a proposal stiffening in the temple walls based on a bound with polypropylene fibers, which, as noted in trials, increases resistance to compression adobe unit by 32%. Subsequently, a quantitative evaluation of the structure of the posterior temple to intervention again made, obtaining the structural characteristics in which the structural safety as strength and stability relies improved, making conditions of use of the temple by the habitants of Lares provides security and has a level of structural safety Low.
