The present work consists of a technical-economic comparison between the use of hollow steel piles versus piles with an incorporated tip as foundations in soils of the Peruvian jungle. The problem settles in the difficulty of cementing structures in Peruvian jungle soils: The need to use of very deep foundations due to the non-advantageous properties of the soil strata, especially the potential for liquefaction; the high cost of manufacturing concrete piles, due to the fact that these tropical areas lack quarries for the extraction of coarse aggregate. For this reason, the use of steel piles, especially floating piles, has become conventional. However, they work almost entirely on the shaft, due to their very small tip area. Thus, the present research work proposes to demonstrate the advantage of incorporating the tip in hollow steel piles. To do this, the foundation of a structure with tubular steel piles with a conical tip and a flat tip was designed, and the results were compared with those of a hollow tubular pile foundation. As structures, the Tarapoto Shopping Center and Mall Iquitos were chosen. The first lies in an area predominantly sandy and with not very resistant soil, and the second, in very clayey cohesive soil with the presence of sands. It was shown that the incorporation of a point in tubular steel piles is extremely favorable, thanks to the bearing capacity increased by the tip, which is greater in frictional soils (Tarapoto Shopping Center) than in cohesive soils (Mall Iquitos). Likewise, it was demonstrated that the driving of the piles with tip can be fully developed without reaching rejection.
