In this work, we present the studies carried out on the internal stress of titanium-diamond like carbon films, produced by the magnetron sputtering technique, on substrates of silicon wafers in a controlled environment of argon and acetylene gases. The internal stress was studied based on the variable rate of acetylene gas and the bias voltage applied to the substrate. To determine the stress of the films, an optical system was used to measure the curvature variation of silicon wafers before and after the deposition films. The internal stress was studied based on acetylene flow rate and substrate bias voltage. The internal stress was measured by the wafer curvature method. The chemical structure and composition of these films were characterized by Raman spectroscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy. Nanoindentation also was used in order to get hardness measurements. The experimental results show the compressive stress decreases by increasing the acetylene gas flow. On the other hand, the compressive stress increases with the applied bias voltage. These results are understood by changes in the composition and chemical structure of Ti-DLC films.
