The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the Geometric Design of the horizontal and vertical alignment of the Lima-Canta highway and its relationship with the operational characteristics of heavy vehicles, because this highway is an alternate route to the central highway. This analysis is carried out by means of the study of a representative section of 10km. When analyzing the section under study with the relevant Standards (DG-2014 and AASHTO), it was found that many parameters of the geometric design of the highway do not comply with the standard, such as: minimum tangent length, minimum radius, maximum slope, etc. These parameters affect the operational aspect of vehicles and highway safety. The points of the highway in which the observations of the parameters of geometric design were found were evaluated in situ in order to be able to analyze the causes for which said geometric design does not comply with the Standard. As a result of the analysis of the highway, it was possible to find that many sections of the road under study do not comply with the Standard, due to the limitations of the very rugged topography that this road presents, similar to that found in much of the Peruvian geography. If we respect the parameters of the norm, it would involve a lot of earth movement, which implies in large part the alteration of the landscape and high budgets. Although some parameters of the geometric design of the road do not comply with the standard, it does not prevent the operation of that one. However, in the thesis is proposed as an economic solution and applicable in the short term, optimize both horizontal and vertical signaling, which allows to generate attractive appearance, pleasant visuals and beautiful structures on the road, in addition, to arouse interest and attention of the drivers. In addition to the above, another solution that involves greater investment in the medium term, is to optimize the stopping visibility distance, to ensure better operating conditions and therefore better road safety.
