The main objective of this investigation, is to present criteria for estimate quickly relevant parameters of the structural response of buildings with seismic isolation. The response is calculated based on simple models whose parameters are considered representative of the building, using dynamic analysis with accelerograms based on the seismicity of the country. Suitable properties for isolation systems are estimated in order to optimize the definition of the base-isolated buildings under seismic excitations. Based on the dynamic analysis indicated, criteria for the analysis and design of buildings with seismic isolation, based on control of displacements, are developed. The displacement control limits the drifts for both structure and isolators. A case study is shown, consisting of a building with an isolation system based on isolators devices type Led Rubber Bearing (LRB), whose characteristics are verified with the above criteria. Then the building is evaluated by time-history analysis with accelerograms representative of seismicity on firm ground, obtaining satisfactory results, consistent with the objectives of earthquake resistant design for the building.
