During the past two decades, peruvian sports journalism has had an important transformation, mainly in terms of content selection. The digitalization of information, the obligation to maintain profitability and the need to attract new readers have forced journalistic directors to remain competitive. Facing that, the content provided by european soccer has been vital for the development of sports mass media and to meet the needs of the company and the new audience that follows both the national soccer championship and international sporting events in parallel. Therefore, european soccer -as an input- has gained space in these specialized newspapers: from more front pages to an increase in the number of pages. This research investigates this transition in which more space has been given to european soccer contents in our most traditional sports newspapers, such as El Bocón and Líbero. For this purpose, the covers and content of these newspapers since 2000 will be analyzed, emphasizing the space gained by European soccer and the way in which this is presented. Likewise, a discourse analysis of a group of headlines of the previously mentioned newspapers will be conducted in order to describe the journalistic-discursive strategies used to elaborate these contents. In this regard, I believe that it is important to inquire about the relationship between the sports press and European soccer as it also accounts for globalization phenomena, content crisis for the Peruvian digital press and the industrialization of the referred sport. Among the main results, it was found that European soccer is represented as quality content and equally important as national news. Also, it has had considerable progress during the 21st century, local media usually magnifies the news of this industry to satisfy new audiences and that journalists present these contents in the important parts of their media.
