afrontamiento.
The main objective of this research was to describe and analyze the relationship between parental stress levels and coping strategies in a group of 110 parents of children with cancer who were treated at the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN). As specific objectives, it was proposed to compare parental stress and coping strategies according to the sociodemographic data of the parents, the child and data on the patient's disease. For this, a questionnaire was applied to measure parental stress (PSI-4-SF) and another to identify coping strategies (COPE). Significant differences were found according to place of origin, educational level, marital status, child's illness and treatment. Regarding the main objective, correlations were found between parental stress and its subscales, with coping strategies. Thus, total parental stress, parental distress, and difficult child characteristics were inversely related to behavioral and mental disengagement strategies. Likewise, parental discomfort was inversely related to the search for social support for emotional reasons and the use of religion. Finally, the father-son relationship and various coping strategies were positively associated.
