Family farming is considered one of the most important activities in the Peruvian economy and is developed to a greater extent in the highlands region of the country. This activity represents 90% of employment in the agricultural sector in this region; however, it also has the lowest levels of salary. 78.7% of family farmers indicate that the income obtained from agriculture is not enough to cover their expenses. This means that family farmers in the highlands live in vulnerable conditions and therefore seek for other sources of income, which could lead them to abandon the farming industry and this jeopardizes the stability of the food production in the country. In response to this problem, building an agricultural innovation and business development center is proposed in order to provide accompaniment and technical counseling to farmers throughout their agricultural production process. This proposition is disruptive because it changes the growth of traditional agricultural processes through technical support and information technologies. It is also exponential as the financial projections show a seven fold increase in profit between year one and year five. The proposed solution can also be considered sustainable since it contributes to the second SDG by increasing the family farmer’s income, which is reflected in a social NPV of 10 million. Similarly, it is economically sustainable because it has a positive economic NPV of 8 million and an IRR of 82.58% which is higher than the opportunity cost of 5.72%. This report is divided into four main sections. The first one corresponds to the definition of the problem. The second section describes the basis of the problematic. The third section outlines the Design Thinking and Lean Startup methodology used to develop the solution to the problem. And the fourth section demonstrates the attractiveness of the solution and shows the reflections and conclusions of the project.
