Resumen: Esta tesis estudia la obra orquestal de Enrique Iturriaga Romero (1918), uno de los grandes
compositores peruanos de la Generación del 50. La figura de Iturriaga se destaca por la calidad
artística de su música y también por su gran labor pedagógica, ambas cualidades avaladas por
múltiples premios y distinciones que le fueron otorgados a lo largo de su vida. El objetivo
principal de esta investigación es descubrir y explorar la estética musical del compositor a
través del análisis dialéctico de su obra complementado con el modelo semiológico tripartito
de Molino-Nattiez. El análisis logra identificar las características propias del lenguaje musical
de Iturriaga como el diatonismo, la tonalidad extendida y la presencia constante de los
elementos característicos de la música popular tradicional peruana. Se espera que este trabajo
contribuya a un mejor entendimiento, una mayor calidad de interpretación y una difusión más
amplia del legado del compositor. La investigación realizada deja la convicción de que la
figura de Enrique Iturriaga, uno de los grandes compositores y maestros del país, se sitúa en
la cúspide del canon de la música peruana, representándola ante el mundo.
This thesis studies the orchestral work of Enrique Iturriaga Romero (1918), one of the great Peruvian composers of the 50’s Generation. The Iturriaga figure stands out for the artistic quality of his music and also for his great pedagogical work, both qualities endorsed by multiple prizes and distinctions that were awarded throughout his life. The main objective of this research is to discover and explore the composer's musical aesthetics through the dialectical analysis of his work complemented with the tripartite semiological model of Molino-Nattiez. The analysis manages to identify the characteristics of Iturriaga's musical language such as diatonicism, extended tonality and the frequent presence of the characteristic elements of Peruvian popular and traditional music. It is expected that this work will contribute to a better understanding, a better quality of performance and a wider dissemination of the composer's legacy. This research realized leaves the conviction that the figure of Enrique Iturriaga, one of the great composers and masters of the country, is situated on the top of the Peruvian music canon, representing it before the world.
