This thesis studies the political thought, proposals, and contributions of the Movimiento Social Progresista (Social-Progressive Movement, MSP, 1956 – 1962), a Peruvian political party inscribed in the reformism of the mid-1950s about which there is limited knowledge. From the extensive analysis of Libertad, a political magazine that disseminated the party's thoughts and political activity, this thesis carries out exploratory and inductive qualitative research to understand what progressivism consisted of for the MSP and what was the party's contribution. The investigation found that the MSP understood progressivism as a humanist doctrine and policy based on a “theory of the man,“ having as its primary objective facilitating the progress of the human being throughout history through the application of policies that gave him the freedom to build himself in a just and caring society. This vision of progressivism took the form of a humanist socialism model developed for the Peruvian reality, which aimed to liquidate the extant oligarchic regime. The party's ideological development allows placing its contribution in two fields. First, it contributes to the study of progressivism as a concept, as the party's ideas allow to strengthen and weaken existing definitions around a widely used but little-studied term. Secondly, the party contributed to resolving the contextual crisis of its context by proposing unique ideas. As such, they contributed through the development of a socialist humanism approach at the ideological level, through the elaboration of an incisive critique of capitalism and imperialism at the national problems' diagnostic level, and through the proposal of the most radical reforms among the three parties of the second reformism.
