ABSTRACT Cajamarca is a beautiful city with different tourist places and very visited, currently in the last census that took place has 28,086 inhabitants in allthe province, every day the inhabitants make the consumption of different species such as cattle, swine and sheep, however, the camal municipal, is an place that does not have adequate conditions for the slaughter of animals, within this does not has the minimum quality standards that a center of this nature must have. Currently, different technologies have been increased in order to help solve the problems of contaminated water, mainly sewage and waters of mining activity; among others, which are oriented towards remediation processes, within which electrocoagulation is proposed for its ability to remove both organic and inorganic pollutants. The present investigation offers a physicochemical study in an experimental electrocoagulation cell, the influence of the current density and the retention time on the percentage of the removal of the DBO, from the wastewater of the camal municipal of Cajamarca. The experimental study was carried out using a solution subjected to different current densities, which are 10, 20 and 40 mA / cm2 and at different retention times which are 15, 30 and 60 minutes, with an initial pH of 7.35 and with a T Initial temperature of 20.34 ° C. In the investigation we have Initial DBO 5 of the sample of 2,650 mgO 2 / L, in the first day after the electrocoagulation we have the removal of the DBO 5 is of 2.436 mgO 2 / L, in the sample 27 the removal of the DBO 5 , is of 0.233 mgO 2 / L , thus obtaining a large amount of DBO 5 removal. At the end of the 27 experiments, a 91.21% removal of DBO 5 was obtained from the Residual Water of the Municipal Camal of Cajamarca, thus reducing the degree of toxicity. Likewise, ANVA analysis determined that retention time and current density significantly affect the electrocoagulation process to remove DBO 5 . It is concluded that, using the technique of electrocoagulation, the toxicity of the waste water of the camal can be reduced, since these waters are qualified by the smell and color they possess, and a high risk for human health, by the plague of diseases that May cause. That is why, with these demonstrations you can choose to use electrocoagulation, as a clean technology and as an alternative to treat wastewater and obtain successful results.
