-- The objective was to identify psychosocial problems and coping strategies used by older adults attending the Senior Center Rimac. Material and method of the study was a quantitative, cross sectional method The population consisted of 117 adults aged 60 to 90 years old and the sample was 70. The technique was the interview and the instrument scale questionnaire and coping strategies modified Folkman and Lazarus. The results were 100% (70) 55.7% (39) have psychosocial problems of retirement, 40% (28) alone, 5.7% (4) body image. The main underlying causes of problems, “the salary is reduced, “ “will cause nostalgia“ “no one visit“ or “have very little family support,“ among others. As coping strategies of 100% (70), 50% (35) sometimes used, 27.1% (19) never, and 22.9% (16) forever. The conclusions were that the most common psychosocial problem is retirement, followed by loneliness and finally body image. Coping strategies used most often were confrontational, planning, positive reappraisal and then finally seeking social support. -- Keywords: psychosocial problems, coping strategies, older adults.
