--- OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between the intensity of the climacteric syndrome and family functioning in women treated at the Hospital of Ventanilla during January to February 2016. METHODOLOGY: Study of observational, correlational, prospective design of cross-section type. The sample was of 162 women who came to the Cancer Preventorium of the Hospital's Ventanilla. Use of inferential statistics, besides Chi - square test was used to find the relationship between qualitative variables. The graphics were designed in Microsoft Excel 2013. RESULTS: The study shows that 50.6% of the population surveyed ranged in age from 50 to 54 years with degree of mainly secondary education, and law marriage and mostly dedicated to his house. As for the familiar functionality 53.1% live in a moderately functional home, and only 21% live in functional home. Besides the intensity of climacteric syndrome 35.8% reported a climacteric syndrome moderate intensity and 11% has very unpleasant symptoms. Regarding family functionality and intensity of climacteric syndrome the 44.12% of women living in a functional home and 40.7% of those living in a moderately functional home, they showed a slight and moderate, respectively climacteric syndrome. Also, it was found that 28.57% of women with a dysfunctional home had a mild, moderate and very annoying for each case climacteric syndrome. The results were statistically significant p <0.05. CONCLUSIONS: The relationship between the intensity of the climacteric syndrome and family functioning in women treated at the Hospital of Ventanilla served during the months of January-February 2016 was significant (p = 0.000 ) KEYWORDS: climacteric syndrome, family functioning, menopause, family Apgar.
