--- The study links motivation, taken as the main core for the change of conduct and the evolution in the treatment of substance dependents. Samples were taken from patiens from Metropolitan Lima hospitals; Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, Hospital Hermilio Valdizán and the Instituto Especializado de Salud Mental Honorio Delgado- Hideyo Noguchi. As the principal test, the scale of Change Assessment of the University of Rhode Island (URICA) was administered. The tests were applied on four opportunities during the year, evaluating the motivational stages, desertion mobility and patients that continue with treatment. At the end of one year of treatment, with different therapeutic approaches that were applied at the three hospitals, they keep the patients in intermediate stages with a tendency towards the motivation to the change in conduct. The desertion rate is of 62% (average from the three studied hospitals). The therapeutic effect is expressed in the decrease in the initial percentage of contemplation and the discreet increase in Action and Maintenance. The experts consider that the period for treatment is of 2 -5 years. The thesis is based on the Model of Change Process from Prochaska and DiClemente and the Concept of Social Cure of Alcoholism in Perú (Griebenow, W. 1984).
