There is a high rate of traffic accidents in Peru and more than half of these accidents occur in the city of Lima. Therefore, it is important to reduce road conflicts to reduce the probability of accidents. On the other hand, it is of utmost importance to reduce vehicle delays to improve the passability of road users. The main purpose of this work is to develop a proposal to reduce vehicular conflicts at the intersection of Av. Prolongación Huaylas with Av. Ariosto Matellini, Chorrillos-Lima, by redesigning the road infrastructure. To this end, the behavior of road users when crossing the busy Chorrillos intersection was described. The study of vehicular traffic was determined in order to determine the rush hour and turns. In addition, the current situation was represented in a micro simulation model calibrated and validated for the study area. Two situations were evaluated with the purpose of reducing the number of conflicts and vehicular crossing times. The first consists of a change in the traffic light cycle optimized with the help of Synchro software, and the second is a different geometry, where one lane is implemented for the most congested accesses and the change of location of stops after the pedestrian crossing. For the comparison of the times it takes vehicles to cross the intersection, microsimulation is carried out using Vissim software and for conflict evaluation the surrogate safety assessment model (SSAM) software is used. As a result, for both cases a reduction in conflicts greater than 10% and 20% respectively was obtained and vehicle delays were reduced by 10% and 30% in the same way.
