This research aimed to know and analyze the perceptions of teachers and principals of public educational institutions in Metropolitan Lima about environmental education. For this, the qualitative-phenomenological method was used, since it allows to understand the points of view and meanings that the participants attribute to a certain phenomenon in a specific context. The main results indicate that managers and teachers perceive that the biggest environmental problems at a global level are environmental pollution and solid waste management, while at a local level they are the neglect of green areas, recycling activities and misuse of the water. On the other hand, the participants perceive environmental awareness as the will to act in favor of the environment; and they perceive that the director's role revolves around supporting teachers and administrative tasks, while the teacher's role focuses on leading the PEAI, as well as raising student awareness among students about environmental care. Finally, the perception of the interviewees about the PEAI is that these projects aim to develop environmental awareness and promote care for the environment. In addition, the most common projects are biogardens, recycling and increasing green areas.
